Die Arbeiten am künftigen Bauplatz begannen im Sommer 1868; bis zu 8 Meter anstehendes Gestein wurden abgetragen, um Platz für die Fundamente zu schaffen.
Im Juni 1869 war die neue Zufahrtsstraße fertig.
