Curtiss SB2C-4 Helldiver
Die Curtiss SB2C Helldiver war ein trägergestützter Sturzkampfbomber mit zwei Mann Besatzung und sollte die SBD Dauntless ersetzen.
Obwohl der Prototyp schon im November 1940 seinen Erstflug hatte, erfolgte der erste Kampfeinsatz aufgrund vieler Entwicklungsschwierigkeiten erst am 11. November 1943.

The Curtiss SB2C Helldiver was a carrier based, two crew dive bomber and was to replace the SBD Dauntless.
Although the prototype flew during November of 1940, the first operational combat missions were not flown until November 11th 1943 because of many teething problems.

Die meisten Probleme wurden allerdings mit Einführung der SB2C-4 behoben, ab diesem Zeitpunkt wurden die Vorteile der Helldiver gegenüber ihrer Vorgängerin Dauntless evident.
Die letzte Variante war die SB2C-5, insgesamt wurden über 7000 Exemplare aller Varianten gebaut.

With the introduction of the SB2C-4 most of these problems had been solved and the superior performance as compared to the Dauntless became evident.
