Ausgangssituation Weltweit sind nur wenige Regionen so artenreich wie die Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion (SSME).
Nirgendwo sonst gibt es so viele Korallen-, Krebstier- und marine Pflanzenarten, mit über 3.000 Fischarten leben hier doppelt so viele Fischarten wie in jeder anderen Region der Welt.

Context Only a few regions in the world are as rich in species as the Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion (SSME).
Nowhere else are there so many species of coral, crustacean and marine plants.
www.giz.deV. rasmusseni ist bisher nur von den beiden Typusexemplaren bekannt, die der Beschreibung zu Grunde lagen.
Die Art kommt sehr wahrscheinlich lediglich auf den entlegenen Sulu Inseln vor.
Sie wurde erst 2010 beschrieben und erinnert mit ihrem Namen an den Dänischen Herpetologen Jens B. Rasmussen ( 1947-2005 ) vom Naturkundemuseum in Kopenhagen, der 2005 vorzeitig verstarb.

Most probably, this monitor species is restricted to the remote Sulu Islands in the southwestern Philippines.
V. rasmusseni was described in 2010 and honours with its name the Danish herpetologist Dr. Jens B. Rasmussen ( 1947-2005 ) from the natural history museum in Copenhagen.
