Anfang Dezember 2008 übernimmt der WBC den Welser Damenclub und integriert die Profimannschaft in die eigene Organisation.
Auf Anhieb werden die WBC-Ladies Cupsieger und Vizemeister 2009.

At the beginning of December 2008, the WBC took over the Welser ladies’ club and integrated the pro team into its own organization.
At their first attempt, the WBC ladies were the Cup-winners and Vice-Champions for 2009.

Auch in der Playoff waren die Welser für ihre Gegner eine Nummer zu groß, die Aufstiegsplayoff wurde vor allen anderen A-Ligisten gewonnen und der Basketball in der Messestadt war endlich dort, wo ihn alle immer haben wollen – in der ersten österreichischen Liga!
