The International Essl Social Prize
The Essl Social Prize was endowed by Martin and Gerda Essl as an international social prize valued at EUR 1 million.
The prize will be awarded annually beginning in 2008 to provide support for private social initiatives and so-called social entrepreneurs.

The initial pilot study for the Essl Social Index was conducted, and is now published, in the area of persons with disabilities (Essl Social Index on Disability Governance (ESI-DG)).
The first Essl Social Index very concretely measures the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was adopted in 2007 and has been signed meanwhile by 147 states.
